招生说明
Department of Biology, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in protein biology commencing 01.10.2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Description of the scientific environment
The main focus of the work in the host laboratory is to discover and functionally characterize novel bioactive peptides from animal venoms with potential pharmacotherapeutic application. We use a variety of biochemical and cell biological methods, supported by molecular biology and bioinformatics.
Project description
The project will focus on the functional characterization of several newly identified venom peptides to determine their receptor target and investigate evolutionary relationships between these peptides and their molecular target. In addition, the work will involve pharmacological and biophysical characterization and analysis of RNA-sequencing and mass spectrometry datasets.
Principal supervisor is Professor Lars Ellgaard, Department of Biology, E-mail: lellgaard@bio.ku.dk, Direct Phone: +4535321725.
Job description
The position is available for a 3-year period and your key tasks as a PhD student at SCIENCE are:
•To manage and carry through your research project
•Attend PhD courses
•Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis
•Teach and disseminate your research
•To stay at an external research institution for a few months, preferably abroad
•Work for the department
Formal requirements
Applicants should hold an MSc degree in biochemistry/cell biology/molecular biology with good results and good English skills. As criteria for the assessment of your qualifications emphasis will also be laid on previous publications (if any) and relevant work experience.
Please include
•Cover Letter
•CV
•Diploma and transcripts of records (BSc and MSc)
•Other information for consideration, e.g. list of publications (if any),
•Full contact details (Name, address, telephone & email) of 1-3 professional referees

Project Description
A fully funded PhD scholarship is available with the Human-in-the-Loop Analytics (HiLA) program at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
https://www.monash.edu/graduate-research/partnerships/hila-grip
HiLA is a Graduate Research Industry Partnership (GRIP) that has been established to allow Monash University and its Industry partners to collaborate on common research objectives.
https://www.monash.edu/graduate-research/partnerships/grip
With the support of Monash’ partners, HiLA PhD scholarships are provided with significant benefits beyond other scholarships on offer. These benefits include:
A fully funded PhD scholarship with Monash University that is available for domestic (Australian) and international students. The 3 to 3.5 year award covers all course fees and a $30,000 AUD per year tax-free stipend;
An internship with the Industry partner - where PhD candidates will spend a portion of their candidature located on site and being supported by the partner;
Access to real world problems supported by real world data;
Where the industry partner is located overseas or interstate, travel and accommodation (when working on site with the partner);
Travel and incidental support for conferences;
Enrolment in the HiLA professional development program;
All HiLA PhD scholarships will commence in Semester 2, 2019.
SUPERVISION:
The successful candidate will be supervised by Associate Professor Ariel Liebman from the Faculty of Information Technology and Lab Manager Dr. Philippe Calvez from ENGIE LAB for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (CSAI).
PROJECT DETAILS:
The specific project centers around the following research opportunity:
This project will explore the application of machine learning approaches in either distristributed optimisation and/or distributed learning using EDGE computing within a microgrid setting.
As a Graduate Research Industry Partnership project, the candidate will have access to knowledge and resources from Monash University and industry partner Engie, including state-of-the-art machine learning hardware (NVIDIA DGX 2), EDGE computing infrastructure and Monash’s state-of-the-art Microgrid. The applicant will also have access large scale proprietary datasets. It also provides the opportunity for research to be tested and implemented in solving real-world problems during the project cycle.
This project would suit a candidate with a a computer science or mathematics background with strong machine learning skills, especially in the application of microgrid solutions. Experience with EDGE computing, Distristributed optimisation and Distributed Learning is also desirable, but not required.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Candidates must fill out the online to Request to Apply form, which can be found at:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdUiAswykQg43s8qIoLfq1eKfiGCZrgnkeoT7IQXOlhdJ8TIg/viewform
Please make sure you indicate that the PhD Topic is “Machine learning approaches in distributed optimisation and/or distributed learning using EDGE computing within a microgrid setting”
In addition to filling out the form, a copy of your academic transcripts and CV should be emailed to
grip.hila@Monash.edu.
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree with first-class Honours, and/or a distinction in a research Masters degree with relevant experience (e.g., data analysis, artificial intelligence, social informatics, psychology, human-computer interaction or data visualisation). Review of applications will begin immediately and short-listed candidates will be contacted for more information and invited to interview. The successful candidate will be invited to apply to Monash with the deadline for applications being the 31st June 2019.
