万锦巿长薛家平办公室公开声明：

日前万锦市长薛家平与总理杜魯多见面时，並没有讨论过幫助联邦政府收容难民的问题。市长只是回应多倫多市要求本省各市讨论由于尋求庇护者增加，如何解决多倫多市臨时房屋短缺的问题。

万锦巿没有计划在巿内提供庇护或臨时房屋于寻求庇护者。在这议题上，万锦市可参与的只是回应多倫多市请求讨论的要求。

Statement from Mayor Frank Scarpitti’s Office:

In his meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Mayor Frank Scarpitti never discussed helping the federal government with asylum seekers.  This came out of a call with the City of Toronto asking municipalities to discuss temporary housing shortage due to increased of asylum seekers in Toronto.

There are no plans to provide shelter or temporary housing for asylum seekers in Markham.  Our possible involvement in this issue was only to address the request for help for the City of Toronto.
