Job Description 

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign provides supercomputing and advanced digital resources for the nation~q~s science enterprise. At NCSA, University of Illinois faculty, staff, students, and collaborators from around the globe use advanced digital resources to address research grand challenges for the benefit of science and society. 

NCSA seeks one or more Visiting Research Scientists to work in its program of servicing Optical Astronomy Surveys including processing DECam data for the Dark Energy Survey and other DECcam observing programs, as well as image processing for the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) project. This scientist will work within a group of scientists and research programmers from NSCA and other institutions to process and analyze the data and participate in the overall operations data processing systems.

Required Education, Training and Experience

Ph.D degree in astronomy, physics, computer science, engineering or other science-related field. Alternative degree fields will be considered if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to current NCSA business needs).

Two years’ experience in one or more areas of practical optical astronomical image processing.

Job Description

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Institute for Molecular Virology (IMV), in collaboration with the Department of Biochemistry or the Department of Plant Pathology, seek to hire a tenure-track (junior) Assistant Professor to develop a collaborative cutting-edge research program aimed at understanding the structure, dynamic responses and function of viral machinery, or virus-host interactions, using biochemical, biophysical, and structural techniques, especially cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM).

This position is one of a three-part synergistic hiring initiative "The Metastructures of Viral Infection" which will expand and complement the Madison Virology Program (MVP). This faculty hire will develop a research program in virology or virus-related cell biology that will take advantage of the resources available in the new Cryo-EM Research Center. 

Principal duties to include

1. Carry out a vigorous, collaborative, externally funded research program at the forefront of mechanistic virology using cryo-EM and complementary approaches

2. S/he will be teaching undergraduates and graduates in the tenure home department curricula.

3. Contribute and participate in professional, university, and community service appropriate to rank.

Job Description 

Under limited supervision of the PI, Section Administrator and Laboratory Manager, provides technical support to the Pancreatic Islet and Regulatory T Cell Transplantation Research Lab at the Department of Surgery by performing moderately complex laboratory techniques and teaching basic laboratory techniques. May oversee daily operations of the laboratory. Completes and maintains accurate records of performed duties. Follows and may assist in developing and improvements of laboratory standard operating procedures. Assists in development of laboratory procedures to ensure accurate collection and analysis of laboratory samples or research data. Utilizes research methods requiring a high degree of proficiency to achieve established research objectives. Evaluates existing methods and objectives.

Job Competencies:

• Knowledge in relevant the biological sciences or chemistry required

• Basic laboratory skills: pipetting, buffer/reagents preparation, 

• Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures required

• Problem-solving skills required

• Ability to learn new research techniques or methods required

• Education: Advanced degree in the field of biological sciences preferred

Experience:

• A minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience in the field of cell biology, cell therapy or other related field required

• Experience in laboratory work accordingly to current Good Manufacturing Practices and laboratory Practices (cGMP/cGLP) regulations preferred

• Experience in laboratory rodents handling and aseptic techniques in rodent survival surgery preferred
