Job Description

The lab of Dr. Philippe Campeau focuses on studyingnew skeletal dysplasias, new forms of epilepsy and chromatin remodelingdisorders (www.pcampeaulab.org). We identify new disease-causing genes,understanding the pathological basis of disease, and try to improve themanagement of children affected by these conditions.

The tasks of the trainees will be to analyze exomeand genome data to identify causative mutations. Then, the mutations will beintroduced in expression vectors by standard molecular biology approaches, orin cell lines (such as induced pluripotent cell lines) by the CRISPR/Cas9approach. In vitro, the effect of the mutations on the gene~q~s pathway will beassessed by a combination of analysis of RNA, protein and cell studies. Thesetechniques include but are not limited to RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, and flowcytometry. In addition, the mutations may be introduced in muce also by theCRISPR/Cas9 approach, to eventually phenotype these mice to better understandthe effect of the mutations.

The fuel cells and electrochemistry laboratory at theDepartment of Chemical Sciences at Ariel University in Israel is seekingpostdoctoral candidates to conduct applied and analytical investigation in thefield of catalysis/energy conversion & storage materials.

Job Responsibilities

The candidate will join a well-establishedenthusiastic group of scientists under the supervision of Prof. Alex Schechterand will join our effort to explore the physical, chemical and catalyticproperties of transition metal based catalysts and support materials for fuelcell, hydrogen generator and other electrochemical applications. This researchis expected to lead to highly active functional materials and fundamentalunderstanding of their role via rigorous of study of their reactions mechanismon practical and theoretical levels.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: A successful PhD degree inChemistry/ Physics/ Chemical Engineering or Material Sciences with strongjournal publications record. Preferred Qualifications: former studies andexperience in nano-materials, electrochemistry, polymer science theoreticalchemistry, and relevant analytical methods (FTIR, XPS, XRD, HRTEM, Ramanmicroscopy).

Job Description

A goal of the Omics Nanotechnology for Cancer Precision Medicine (ONC-PM)Research Theme is to identify and exploit novel nucleic acid and proteinbiomarkers of cancer that can be noninvasively and rapidly measured from asingle blood fingerstick using new technology platforms, to eventually measurediagnostic biomarkers in cancer patients to identify cancer sub-classes,monitor recurrence, and track therapy, to provide a more personalized approachtoward patient care. We seek an individual who will serve in a research andleadership role to facilitate collaboration between interdisciplinary teams.The Fellow will develop ultrasensitive technologies that incorporatenanostructured optical biosensors, high contrast nanoparticle tags (quantumdots and plasmonic nanoparticles), and microscopy-based detectioninstrumentation. Candidates with a PhD in Bioengineering, Electrical andComputer Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline preferred.Experience in the development and characterization of biosensors with anemphasis on optics-based approaches such as fluorescence, surface-enhancedRaman spectroscopy, or label-free detection are desired. Preference will begiven to candidates familiar with instruments used for optical detection,including microscopes, imaging camera technology, and laser excitationsources.  A track record of high impact peer-reviewed journal publicationsand excellent communication skills are required.

The Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology at the University ofIllinois at Urbana-Champaign offers a number of fellowships for trulyexceptional young scholars who have completed their PhD within the last severalyears, and who are looking for a stimulating and supportive interdisciplinaryenvironment to carry out independent and collaborative research in the field ofanticancer diagnostics and personalized medicine. IGB Fellows will typicallyspend two or more years conducting research in one of the IGB research themes.A personalized mentoring plan will be developed for each Fellow. Annual salaryis $54,000, in addition to a $7,500 allowance.
